Back At Home

 

Jacob's team, the Pirates, are finally back at NWLL after the long China-Virus layoff.  They had a win on Monday 17-2 and lost 11-6 on Thursday.  The Pirates didn't throw their best pitcher in the loss which is still a bit puzzling but, in that game, we saw Jacob catch both a fly-ball in the outfield (first inning) and another one at eye-level at short stop (third inning).  This was on top of catching a fly-ball in the outfield on Monday evening and throwing a couple kids out at third from short stop.  With a hit in each game, Jacob has had quite a week considering he is playing with 8-10 year olds.  Jacob's buddy Wyatt even got to pitch this week which was another absolute treat to watch.

Great Americans

 

Jacob's class had 'Great Americans' day at school the other week.  Each of the kids chose a famous American and did a report about the individual and presented it to the class.  Jacob came home and announced that he chose John Wayne!  His other two choices were George Washington or Elvis.  This was one of his favorite projects and he did a splendid job.  We have now watched Hondo, Sons of Katie Elder and Rio Bravo for movie night.  All we really needed was a little inspiration to come back to those classics.

Super Bowl

 It was KC vs Tampa in the big game last month and the old man vs the young man at QB.  Incidentally, the old man was rooting for the old man and the boys were rooting for the young man.  We had a feast, complete with desert, and just enjoyed the game.

Remote Learning, Again

 

With all the damage to the church/facilities due to the freeze and broken water pipes, it was back to remote learning for a couple weeks.  Just prior to Spring Break, all the kids returned to school once again though.

Pirates

This spring Jacob is on the Pirates at NWLL.  They played their second game last night and did quite well scoring 11 runs (first two games of the year are technically scrimmages due to the China Virus layoff over the last year).  The Blue Jays starting pitcher threw as hard as anyone they will see all year, very impressive.  Jacob took a hard fastball straight to the helmet but it didn't even phase him.  Batting in third position he scored three runs and even got to play first base for an inning.

They are playing at the Balcones Little League fields until the City of Austin will let the kids back on NWLL fields.  Sounds like that may take place right after Spring Break when the season begins in earnest.

The teeth just keep coming out for Jacob.  That's four or five in the last six months and we think the dentist is going to be happy at the next checkup with all the progress!
