Fishing

With Mom gone to Paris for the weekend (France....not Texas),  the guys.....

...made a trip down to Lake Bastrop for some fishing.  We got there early and started at the piers.

Not much action there so we headed out on the fisherman's trail and found a nice spot.

We got a number of these little guys and had a great time.  It was already 92 degrees about 1:00 PM so we headed back to Austin.

With everyone quite hungry at that point, we decided to hit the Golden Corral and there were thumb's up all around.

They are starting to make some real progress on the new Doss.  They have carved out a nice piece of land into the hillside to ensure an unobstructed view of downtown and a lot of the steel is already in place.

HEB Campout - Frio River

It was a perfect day to be on the Frio river at almost 100 degrees at HEB camp.  Guys....Your Mom even worked up the nerve to make the jump off the cliffside.

What did we do at HEB Camp near Leakey, TX, last month?  It started with a hike.

As we climbed higher, the scenery got even better....

Ronnie Hill

It was four nights of Ronnie Hill at Hyde Park a few weeks ago.  We were able to make it to two of the four nights including a packed Wednesday evening service.

We seem to have been in MN on the same weekend as the car show in downtown Park Rapids the last few years and saw some nice cars like this GTO....

....there was a Vega on-hand but we really don't know why....

....a replica of a Cobra....

....a cool VW combination.....

....and something that is way out of our price range.  Somehow we missed a picture of Jacob's favorite car, the Dodge Viper.

More Fishing

We were a just about to head home as it was quickly getting dark when we got one last fish, the elusive Walleye.  He didn’t give much of a fight at first but found some life and once again we got the landing net out and hauled him in.  His length was about 28”. 

We always catch and release but not this time.  The next morning, your grandpa got to work giving a demonstration on how to properly fillet a fish.  Jacob was thrilled with this fishing excursion as we almost caught "one of everything" and he now will proudly list all the types of fish in the lake on demand.

Some Fishing

A perfect night to go out fishing....cool temps, overcast skies, jackets and no wind.  Jacob.....you caught a few little guys on this very evening and then hooked on to this Bass.  You were reeling pretty hard so we gave your line a little tug and could tell there was certainly something there.  You kept cranking and we got the landing net and helped haul him in.  This guy was around 18 inches long.     

After that, you declared you wanted to catch another Northern like you did earlier this summer so we kept fishing.  You hooked on to something else in the lake and right after Dad made a flippant comment about this being a Northern, we hauled out the landing net once again and, of course, it was a Northern.  

After all that excitement, it was beginning to get dark so we decided to cast a few more since we were close to home.  With that, we will conclude the story of this little fishing excursion tomorrow.
