Lucy's 1st Bday
It was off to Lucy's first birthday party the other weekend. A rainy weekend but plenty of good food, presents, and a cake in which a lot of young eyes were focused. Kasch got a trampoline with his birthday being so close and the weather cleared off just enough for the kids to get some jumping in.

Rain

Swimming
Plenty of swimming at the campout. After they all learned to pull someone to safety from the water, it appeared that they were almost determined to put into practice what they learned. The modern day version of King of the Mountain.

Did That Just Happen?
As with all Cub Scout campouts, there is a raging campfire, songs are sung, jokes are told and each den does a skit for the audience. With all the rain that day, the "campfire" was moved to the pavillion, without the fire.
Both Noah and Jacob's dens got together that afternoon and put their skits together. Jacob's den decided on the Invisible Bench skit. We watched as they put the skit together and Jacob got assigned the larger speaking role and delivery of the punchline. They practiced and practiced; however, with a little over 100 people in attendance, perhaps we were a bit skittish about how this was going to go as Jacob was still 'breaking out of his shell'. At that point, we also still thought there would be an actual campfire and it wasn't until later that afternoon that they moved the venue. What's not seen here are the 100+ people in a large amphitheater setting.
So, that night, songs were sung and before the skits started, they had kids come up front that wanted to tell jokes. When it came time for the Tigers (Jacob's den), Jacob promptly got up and marched out to tell a joke. We were amazed.....where did this come from? He wasn't done....they did a second and third round and he kept marching up there. He may have made up one of the jokes yet we sat there still amazed & dumbfounded.
Then it was time for the skit, the first kid went out and acted like he was sitting on the bench. One by one the next three kids came out, asked what they were doing and then asked to join them. Finally, Jacob trotted out, asked what they were doing to which they replied, "we're sitting on an invisible bench". Jacob then replied, "No you're not, I moved the invisible bench over there (pointing)". The kids then immediately fell from their non-existent invisible bench and the crowd roared. Well done Jacob....well done.

Cub Scout HEB Camp Out All Week Long
We have to say, they sure found a great setting for a camp out this time around.
It was an almost five hour trip out there (an hour to get out of Austin) to get to the HEB campsite near Leakey, TX.
We got there in the dark but this was nice to wake up to......
....and when we were told ahead of time that we would drive through water, this doesn't look quite as bad as it was in the dark of night.
