Ashton Woods

It's been 11 years and the time has come to bid you a fond farewell.  Only a few blocks from the Howard lite rail stop, we enjoyed our time together.  Memo to Noah and Jacob....Mom designed and had the townhouse built and Dad added the deck in back.

Austin Marathon

Last weekend the kids helped out at a water stop at the Austin Marathon.  They gave out water and encouragement.  Good job kids.  Mom and Dad felt sorry for those runners as it was 70 degrees at sunrise.

It Was Inevitable

It happened the other night for the first time and almost flew under the radar.  As we finished dinner and were clearing the table, we asked Noah to take his dishes to the sink.  He was already half way out of the kitchen on the way to cartoons.  He turned, grabbed his dishes and uttered the single word that apparently best describes "disgust, frustration or acknowledgement".  Known to many of the Helmers, that single word was ‘Ack’.  We applaud Noah’s appropriate use of grammar and apparently he has been listening to what we say all along!

Ugly Duckling

It was off to the Paramount last week to see the Ugly Duckling by the Lightwire Theater.  Very interesting concept and good performance.  Youtube link below to see a bit of what they do.

Jacob

Jacob is back in the pool too.  He is taking instruction very well and starting to learn his first strokes.  It won't be long and we won't have to worry about him around the pool anymore.

Back to the Pool

It is back to the pool for swim lessons.  Noah is learning more on the backstroke, treading water for two minutes and even learning the butterfly stroke. We will check in on Jacob tomorrow.

Basketball

One of our new favorite activities.  Now, if we can just get the open gym schedule to synch with our schedule, everything will be good.

Apprenticeship

Noah learned about hot water heaters and TPR valves last weekend.  He always enjoys something new.

Our Junior Apprentice will soon again get his chance to make the rounds!

List 2

Noah has worked hard to get to List 2 in his spelling.  The kids have their normal spelling test on Friday and they do a pre-test for the next week as well.  If they do well on the pre-test, the child will get List 2 spelling words the following week, otherwise they get List 1.  This past week, Noah had List 2 spelling words and got a 102 on the test and then aced the pre-test for the following week. Two straight weeks on List 2.....we are on a roll.

Foosball

While waiting for swimming lessons, the kids found a new game that very quickly got their attention.

Donuts With Dad

With Dad out of town for Donut's With Dad at school the other week, it was time for him to make good on a simple promise.....donuts.  That is not an apple that Jacob is eating, he went right for the cake donut with red glazing.  Noah went for a donut with coconut and loved it.  As for Dad, the apple fritter in the foreground was the size of a large shoe and very good!
