The season just came to an end...but not before we got your picture and you got your runner-up trophy for second place in the regular season Coach Pitch league. Your final game against the Diamondbacks was about as eventful as they come (more on that later). Since you won't remember much of this at your age....here goes.
After rainouts caused all kinds of scheduling problems, your team had to wait 17 days until your first game. Somehow your team never got rained out the entire season. Your final four games were all wins and had the Orioles scoring over 60 runs. The layoff was evident in the first tournament game. It was a tough draw against the Astros but to make matters worse, they moved you to Field #2. Pretty daunting place for 6-7 year olds (delightful for parents) and the first introduction of a pitching mound which was difficult for the hitters. You went 1-2 hitting and got to second and ultimately scored. The final score was 12-8, the Astros had some big hitters.
It was on to the losers bracket against the Diamondbacks. The Orioles jumped out 4-0 in the first half of the inning, then lighting hit and they called the game off for the day. The next day you picked up right where you left off. It was 4-4 after the completion of that first inning and you were first to bat in the second inning. You singled and ultimately scored, overall you were three for four on the day, scoring two runs and an RBI.
It was a back and forth game and in the bottom of the fifth, it was 10-10 with the orioles in the field, the Diamondbacks had two outs and boys on first and third. The batter hit a shot down the first base line and and amazing play at first by a teammate closed out the inning.
Instead of heading straight to an extra inning after regulation, the committee formed and had a 10 minute discussion with the coaches on how to proceed. Long story short, statistics were supposed to have determined the winner but they let the kids play. Jacob, you were up first and singled and ultimately scored. After the top of the inning, Orioles were up 14-10. In the bottom half of the inning the Diamondbacks put on a impressive hitting display and ultimately won 15-14. Overall.....a really fun season.
