Some Sun

There was some sun over the weekend too out in Fredericksburg.  Noah got the opportunity to ride a 4-wheeler with Dad and also got to go searching for a fox that we saw roaming outside.  He also saw a small pack of wild boars.  Quite a nature lover's delight.

It was surprisingly rainy all weekend in Austin and out in Fredericksburg which limited the outdoor activities.  One thing both boys sure enjoyed was playing with the keyboard.  While Noah liked cranking the volume up, Jacob enjoyed climbing all over it.

During the trip to Kiddie Acres, Noah also got to fly a plane. This was one of his favorite rides.

On our trip to Kiddie Acres in Austin last week, Noah got the opportunity to drive the boat.  This is good practice for the upcoming vacation in MN where he just may be driving a much bigger boat!

Last weekend was a quick trip to Houston to see the Stubers.  This may have been our last trip since they will be moving to Alabama soon.  It took Noah almost no time to get the cape and hat from his counsins and he kept them on all weekend, except at the dinner table and when he slept.  Ben's flippers were another favorite.  Jacob, meanwhile, showed-off his 'almost walking' skills.  The weekend included a couple trips to the pool, good food, conversation, amped up children, and the loading and transport of the Playset (more on that next week).  We don't think Noah was happy to leave because, well....he told us so.  Thank you Stubers for the hospitality!

It was the post from one year ago today that is still funny.  Why is it funny?  Well, there are many, many reasons and it may literally take up to 10 MB of space on the Blogger server if I were to list them all.  We also may get a knock at our door by friendly folks from the NSA, IRS, or some other Federal Government acronym if I go further, so let's stop right there.  Let's just say that there was an owl in the tree at Kiddie Acres last weekend (pics next week) and Noah uttered Joe Biden's name once again.

Noah's class at school focused on the color brown this month.  When it came time for Show and Share at school, Noah knew right was he was going to bring.....his football pillow that converts to a teddy bear.  Little did Noah know that this pillow has a long history and came all the way from Uncle Curt in North Carolina (Noah is learning his states too).

Happy Mother's Day!

 

At church on Mother's Day, they had a photo booth for all the Mothers.  Jacob was asleep (for once) so he didn't get to join in the picture but Noah was quick to pick out the pirate hat.  With a trip out to La Grange for lunch and an afternoon of fun, Lori had a very full day.  Happy Mother's day!

Memo to Noah & Jacob:  If this doorway happens to look familiar to you in 15-17 years from now, you have no one to blame but Mom & Dad.  At the very least, it has been painted since this picture was taken.

We're Making Progress

Jacob has now gone from the crawl to pulling himself up to the standing position.  It won't be long and he will be able to explore parts unknown.  As for the pacifier.....he's got about 15 weeks left with it prior to moving up to his new class at school.

Out of Left Field

The application was submitted three and a half years ago.....long before the arrival of Noah on June 30, 2010. Some friends told us that to get Noah into the University of Texas Lab School we needed to submit an application very early because of the long wait list.  We did so and we patiently waited for a response. 

After Noah was born, we checked in with them to see where we were in the queue and Lori even stopped by and talked to the director.  Lori praised the work they did at the Lab School and impressed upon them what a fantastic child that Noah was and how the overall program would benefit from his particiption.  She even went as far as to mention that Noah's dad was the product of a lab school but stopped short of bearing gifts.   

We decided to wait a little longer.  We waited.....and waited.....and waited. Noah had a nanny for his first year at home and we moved very, very late in the game to search for a pre-school.  After visiting a few pre-schools and being less than impressed, we checked out the Hyde Park Baptist Child Development Center.  It had  great reviews, a great location, and we were already there every Sunday.  In our collective mind, this was it. We met the director, submitted an application but were warned about the very long wait-list.  As we scrambled to find alternatives and turned up our noses at many other providers, a funny thing happened.  Many months later, out of left field, we got a call....there was a spot open for Noah at the Hyde Park CDC.  Well, we all know the rest, Noah is about to wrap up his second year at Hyde Park and Jacob, who arrived on the scene in 2012, is now attending Hyde Park and is about to wrap up his first year.

To bring this long winded story to a conclusion, just last week Lori received another phone call.  This one was from the University of Texas Lab School.  It just so happened that a spot had opened up for Noah to attend this fall if we wanted it.  Well, UT has a phenomenal program for kids and we've heard so many good things about it that it didn't take us long to decide where Noah would be attending school this fall.  He and Jacob will once again be enrolled at Hyde Park!!!  You see, UT's program is lacking one core ingredient that Hyde Park just so happens to excel at, spiritual development.  Whether it be the bible verses they learn each week, Wednesday morning visits to chapel to sing songs, or the teachings from Ms. Tara, Ms. Micah, Ms. Martha or Ms. Bev, this program just can't be beat.

As for us, we will continue to make that drive to 40th & Speedway each and every day and wait patiently for the day that Jacob, following in the footsteps of Noah, comes home from school signing the 'Amen' song.

Turkey Sandwhich

He really did like the turkey sandwhich at lunch the other day.  The photographic evidence seems to paint an entirely different picture though.
