The Firehouse

 

It all started a month or two back when we volunteered with most of the other parents on a Saturday to clean, repair and build structures to improve the playground at the kid's school.  There were playhouses built, painting, hundereds of yards of mulch, construction improvements, etc, etc.  It turned out to be a very good day and the kids loved the additions and improvements. 

 

The plans for the playhouse pictured above indicated that it was to be a firehouse.  It still needs a coat of red paint, the signs added, etc.  This building wasn't ready to be built the day that all the renovations were done so again the call went out for volunteers.  Not knowing the task, dad raised his hand and luckily another father did so as well. 

 

So last Saturday morning bright and early the construction commenced.  After hauling the building (in piece parts) on a pallet from the church, leveling the ground and building the floor, the real construction began.  First the walls and the doorways, then the trusses followed.  With the addition of a roof and a full set of shingles, it was complete (apparently doors are a safety issue).  At 7:00 PM it was time to go home.  After church the next day we took Noah to see it and he loved it.  All very worth it and the kids now have an additional 64 square feet of firehouse fun for years to come!          

High Point

After lunch with our friends the Garcia's on Sunday after church, we headed straight for the playground. It took Noah and Joshua no time to find the highest point there!

Ground Zero

Nine Months for Jacob

It was time for Jacob's nine month checkup this past week.  He weighed in at 20 lbs and measured 27 inches.  His iron levels checked out and and he got a couple immunizations before heading out to school.  He is on the verge of crawling and is also thinking about pulling himself up to the standing position.

Spring Has Sprung

Well, at least here in Austin, TX, it has.  Dad and Grandpa built the Arbor and planted the Blue Wisteria about the time that Noah was born.  A few year later and it's really beginning to show.

Fireman Boots

Noah got these boots from his friend Asher.  They have been tucked away in his closet for quite sometime.  He happened to spot them the other day and come to find out that they apparently have some sort of magical power that draws them to kids.  Whether it is first thing when he gets home in the afternoon, first thing when he gets up in the morning or, sometimes, at 3:00 AM (not joking).....he wants to wear these boots.

Donuts

 

One of the quickest ways to get a smile from Noah, powdered sugar donuts.  His great uncle Terry figured that out a long time ago and brought along chocolate milk!

First Steps

Not quite yet.  He has moved about 270 degrees around his play table though.  He is eager to get on all fours and watching Noah is surely moving this little guy forward.

Dining Outdoors

It's that time of the year again.  Pizza just so happens to make for a fine outdoor meal.  At least, that's what Noah tells us.

School Days

Always eager to flash that smile, even on the playground.  Perhaps not as many smiles at dinner time as of late.

Cheerios

Jacob's favorite new food.  Actually, this used to be his favorite food.....he was introduced to brisket yesterday and that may have trumped the Cheerios.  They tell us at school that he is beginning to eat a lot during the day so he may be moving on to some cafeteria food soon.

The Rodeo

On Friday, Hyde Park had a the kid's rodeo to close out Texas Independence Week.  Noah played the part of sheriff. For some reason, he enjoyed hanging out in the Bank!!!

Texas Independence Week

 

It is Texas Independence Week at Noah and Jacob's school this week.  There is an "Old West" town set up, a "Camp Fire" sing along, pony rides and Rodeo Day on Friday.  Noah got the opportunity to ride his first pony and did quite well. As with most things, Noah will jump right in and normally doesn't hesitate to tackle something new!

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

 

 

The GOOD must have been his overall day and seeing the pony.  The BAD must have been that he did not take a morning nap (although contradicted in the notes below but confirmed by his teacher).  As for the UGLY, that must have been related to the comment listed as "Blowout, changed clothes".  At least that incident didn't happen under our watch :)
